Triglav over Prag

2-Day Tour, Vrata Valley to Krma Valley (pick-up in Kranjska Gora or Bled)

There’s certain allure of climbing Triglav, Slovenia’s highest mountain, over its grand Triglav North Face, a 3-km wide and 1-km high vertical face. The Prag Route, arguably the easiest route crossing the Triglav North Face, and as such appropriate for intermediate-and-up hikers (or beginners with a mountain guide), traverses the remarkable kingdom of the legendary Goldhorn, a white chamois with golden horns that had supposedly chased away everyone upon intruding into his territory. Expect high, hard and spectacular, as we climb over the Face on the first day, spend the night high up in the mountains either in the Kredarica Hut or Valentin Stanič Hut, ascend the peak of Triglav the next morning and then return along the easier route down to the Krma Valley, another beautiful valley beneath Slovenia’s highest mountain. Are you up to the challenge?

Guided by an experienced IFMGA mountain guide.

Itinerary

Day 1:  Aljaž Hut to Kredarica Hut

Upon meeting at the Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Alpine Valley and going through the hiking and via ferrata gear, we head straight towards the majestic Triglav North Face. After about an hour of pleasurable walking beneath the towering Face we finally reach the point where we strap on the climbing harness and helmet and enter the steeper world. We carefully pass the secured climbing sections, enjoying incredible views of the North Face and other mountains across the Vrata Valley, and then continue our way towards the Kredarica Hut where we spend the night.

Day 2: Kredarica Hut - Triglav - Krma Valley

After a good night sleep in Kredarica, the highest lying mountain hut in Slovenia, we head towards the very peak of Triglav. When we reach the top of Slovenia's highest mountain, the first-timers will be surprised to learn of the Slovenian mountaineering habits. However, everyone will be mesmerised by incredible views from the very top of Slovenia. Then, we slowly return down the easier route to see another breathtaking valley beneath Triglav, the Krma Valley.
