I’ve written about climbing our highest peak over and over and over again. It’s strikingly beautiful and climbing it fills you with indescribable emotions way beyond exhilarated. But then again, Triglav is surprisingly demanding and even in perfect conditions a serious ascent. Experienced climbers describe winter ascents to Slovenia’s highest peak as a true challenge. You want to do it safely? Climb it with a mountain guide. Seriously.

Exploring Slovenia
is at Velika Milanja.
Somewhere in the southern Slovenia in the heart of the Goričko, Notranjsko and Snežniško hribovje range, where you’ll also find the largest forested area in the country that among other animals houses also bears, wolves and lynxes, ascends quite modestly Velika Milanja. At 1,099 m, it’s not by far anything grandiose, yet it impresses with a different type of appeal. Its special flora with tall and very particular looking flowers and gentle grasses gives Velika Milanja its own distinctive character, making it appealing to hikers regardless of its modest height. In case you’re wondering, the views around it are beautiful too. 😊![]()
