Mala Mojstrovka South Route
Half-Day Tour, start from Vršič Pass, pick-up in Kranjska Gora or Bled
2K mountain, Slovenia’s favorite for its comfortable accessibility from the road shows a completely different face whether looking from the south or the north. As opposed to the vertical north side, the south route is not too technical and as such suitable for beginners, and for everyone seeking a comfortable ascent of a high mountain. Recommended for the first mountaineering adventure into the world of Alpine giants of the Julian Alps. Not only is the trail interesting, being fully above the tree line, but the panorama from the top will leave you speechless with views as far as Italy and Austria.
After we meet at the Vršič mountain pass, we head towards the east talus slopes of Mala Mojstrovka. The ascent lasts roughly for a little over 2 hours and first winds through short shrub and scree terrain, which makes it a bit harder to progress up but is so much more fun coming then back down. Once we're past a short ravine, we move to the south side of the mountain and follow a fairly easy trail with a few more demanding secured spots. The ascent can also be combined with an additional ascent of the bigger of the two peaks of Mojstrovka, Velika Mojstrovka, highly recommended to everyone hiking Mala Mojstrovka. The descent follows the same trail as coming up, but usually lasts much less as we can take a huge shortcut over the scree slope. Yee-haw!
