Itinerary

Starting above Lake Bohinj from the Blato Plateau, we first follow the signs for the picturesque plateau Planina pri Jezeru (Plateau by the Lake). We then turn our route towards the second plateau called Dedno Polje, and yet another plateau afterwards called Planina Ovčarija (Sheep Plateau). Finally, as we approach the towering mountains above a long Alpine valley, we know we just crossed over to the high-lying Valley of the Triglav Lakes and soon after we reach the Double Lake Hut. Please note that it's about 4 hours to the Double Lake Hut for adults, which should make a 5-6 hour walk up for young families. Highly recommended to extend the trek over two days, spend the night in the Double Lake Hut and return to the valley the next day.

"I had an incredible day of hiking through the stunning Triglav National Park with our guide Neja. Starting low in the valley we quickly ascended through a stunning forest marked with waterfalls overflowing with spring snow melt. That took us up to the picturesque Black Lake before we carried on above the snow line to reach the Double Lake, a deep emerald colour standing out against the surrounding snow. In the afternoon we looped around the alpine trails, stopping for a late lunch at the Komna Hut before heading back down the valley to our starting point. Neja was a great tour guide, I certainly wouldn't' have wanted to do this hike without someone with her local knowledge given how quickly the weather can change on the mountain."

Technical level

T1 | No previous hiking or climbing experience is necessary. Surfaces: rolling or mountainous terrain with typically easily ascending trails, some steep ascents/descents and uneven trails.
