A Day Tour, start from Pokljuka (pick-up in Bled or Bohinj)

In the very heart of the Triglav National Park, the largest protected area in Slovenia covering 838 square kilometers, there is a sense of contented isolation. Very few people find their way here, yet the hikes are just gorgeous! Almost 2,000 meters high, just on the opposite side to Mt. Triglav across the narrow and more than a 1000-meter deep glacial valley, stand impressive mountains with awe-inspiring vistas. Surprisingly easy to climb with only 650 meters of ascent and a hut, open throughout the year, on the way, almost anyone could easily climb them and practically in all conditions.

Itinerary

We park by one of the many Alpine plateaus of Pokljuka, and start ascending slowly along an enchanting forest trail. While the trail treats us to an occasional glimpse of what's waiting ahead still in the forest, the truly mesmerizing views open up when breaking the tree line not too far from a hut where we'll enjoy a traditional mountain lunch. From there, we continue up an easy trail to gorgeous Alpine meadows at the top of Mt. Mrežce. After feasting on soul-stirring vistas of Mt. Triglav, Rjavina and other spectacular peaks of the Julian Alps, we continue our hike on an open trail that weaves across an idyllic mountainous world to the neighboring peak of Debela Peč. Afterwards, we return back down a different route, walking through a beautiful larch forest.

"This is definitely one of the most panoramic peaks in the Julian Alps! The trail gently climbed through a tall spruce forest until we reached a hut where my 70-year-old mom sat in the shade and waited while we continued to hike up to the peak. We saw many beautiful flowers along the trail and when we arrived at the top the views simply took my breath away! We ate tasty sandwiches while resting and enjoying the views. All in all, it was an amazing day and I highly recommend the hike!"

Easy Active (1/5) | Great for outdoor novices to active hikers; 3-6 hours of activity per day.

Technical level

T1 | No previous hiking or climbing experience is necessary. Surfaces: rolling or mountainous terrain with typically easily ascending trails, some steep ascents/descents and uneven trails.
